Blueprint drawing of Andean peaks with a cable car crossing the valley

Overview

A conceptual transit proposal for Cusco: an elevated, suspended monorail to relieve traffic, with cable cars linking hillside neighborhoods.

Goal: move commuters above the congested streets without widening roads in the protected historic center.

The challenge

Cusco's historic center has narrow streets under heritage protection, so roads can't simply be widened while traffic keeps growing.

The solution

Run a suspended monorail above existing corridors, needing only a line of columns instead of new road space, and reach steep hillside areas with cable cars.

Highlights

  • An elevated line keeps trains off the historic streets.
  • Electric trains, with no exhaust in the city center.
  • Cable cars reach hillside neighborhoods that are hard to serve by road.
